The Home Performance Assessment (HPA)
After analyzing your utility bills in conjunction with data provided in the Occupant Interview, we come to your home and carry out our Visual Inspection, measure air leakage with the "Blower Door" inspection, duct efficiciency with the Duct Leakage Inspection, and heating and cooling equipment efficiency, bath fan ventilation efficiency, as well as humidity and temperature levels. We also perform attic/crawl space and window/roofing inspections, all of which will build a comprehensive overview of the energy efficiency of your house, as well as identify the components that can be improved/replaced in order to optimize the possible retrofit. We gather performance measurements (according to BPI standards) using a blower door, a duct blaster, a combustion analyzer, temperature and humidity gauges, carbon monoxide detectors and an infrared camera.
After 7-10 days time, we meet with you and review our findings in our HPA report (debriefing) which includes custom pictures of your home, measurements obtained and recommended upgrades that will optimize energy efficiency. The consultation takes 1-2 hours and we answer any questions that you may have about the HPA report. We layout recommendations on strategy to make your home more Comfortable, Healthy, Safe and Energy Efficient as well as guide you in garnering the rebates and resources available to homeowners when moving forward with these retrofits.
Because of the nationwide push for an increase in energy efficiency, umbrella funds like Energy Upgrade California have been implemented and are providing massive funds for rebates. If you have not already done so at this point, we will guide you in finding the rebates suitable for your location and home, so that your Home Performance Energy Upgrade is as affordable as possible! If you would like to search for available rebates in your area, click here.
If you elect to move forward with a Home Performance Energy Upgrade, we will model your home’s energy potential (using computer software) and submit a rebate request form to PG&E and/or SMUD. Once the job is approved by the proper energy provider, we will install the energy upgrades and perform the required “test-out” to ensure that the energy measures were installed correctly. The “test-out” data is submitted to PG&E and the actual rebate is processed, and then you, the homeowner, receives a check directly from your energy provider (PG&E or SMUD).
